Paper:
This is a research paper that compares cultural issues related to families in the United States to
those of other countries. It is important to reflect on global awareness and international
perspectives as you research about the U.S. and the selected country. The statements that you
will write about the U.S. should also be researched. Do not just write what you know, opinions
or have experienced, do a research about facts related to the factors on both countries.
This is a research paper. Do your RESEARCH both about the country other than the U.S. and the
U.S. Very important to note: DO NOT GO TO A WEBSITE. ARTICLE, OR A BOOK AND
JUST LIFT OR COPY THE WORDS EXACTLY AS YOU FIND THEM! This is called
plagiarism. Paraphrase the information you find.
Note: NO WIKIPEDIA and NO ENTERTAINMENT, MAGAZINE articles, nor POPULAR
MEDIA (e.g., reality shows) should be used as sources– Points will be deducted if students will
use these ‘banned’ sources.
Students may incorporate information by interviewing someone from that country (optional).
Once you find relevant sources to write this research paper, read and understand what you want
taken from the source and PARAPHRASE or use your own words to communicate the ideas.
Then, cite your source/s in APA style within the text and also list them in the references section
at the end of the paper. Below are example on how to cite:

following 9 factors (make sure to address all of them):
1. Housing and geographic location
a. Describe the geographic location and housing of the population of the country you
chose. Please include population; the exact location; physical features of the country;

pays; public or private; government funding; the availability of hospitals and doctors etc.

The paper should
– be a maximum of 5 1/2 pages
– be double-spaced and includes a cover page (not included in the number of pages)
– have a reference page (this is not included in the number of pages). Sources could
include books, journal articles, and reliable Internet sources (usually the .net,.org, and
country websites).
– include all the 9 factors for both countries. At least have a paragraph of each of the nine
factors.
– include a FINAL paragraph, A REFLECTION. The reflection should be on the similarities and
differences between the United States and the selected country in relation to family functioning
and global problems. A general reflection on the importance of global awareness and
international perspectives is expected, highlighting the significance of contextual factors such as
education, socio-political system, and economics affecting communities and family dynamics.
Format of the paper
• Organize the paper by using subheading of the factors.
• Students should use APA in citations including the sources and even an interview if there is
any. Add the reference list.
• Again, at the end of the paper, write a final paragraph (reflection) summarizing your learning
experience comparing and contrasting the countries, the highlights of the country you
selected, and how the learning about your selected country’s factors could impact human
development, social interaction, and family dynamics from a global and international
perspectives.
Grading criteria: TOTAL = 110 Points
Paper (110 Points)
1. Complete write-up of the nine factors (4 points each) – 36 points
2. Comparison to the U.S. based on the nine factors (3 points each)– 27 points
3. Reflection on the importance of developing global awareness and international perspectives
when understanding the forces or factors that shape society over time – 26 points
4. Citation and referencing in APA style (cited sources within text, listed sources in the
reference section, paraphrased instead of lifting the exact words from the source, APA
formatting, used reliable and scholarly sources). – 6 points
5. Writing quality (spelling, grammar, sentence/paragraph construction, elaboration of ideas,
clarity and organization) – 10 points
6. Followed the instructions: formatting and no. of pages. – 5 points
