Identity Information
Denise Huxtable joins her new dormitory and is assigned a new roommate, Jaleesa. However,
upon arrival she is given information about her new roommate which are different from the other
people in Campus (Carsey, Werner, Mandabach & Fales, 1987). Jaleesa is 26 years old and
therefore older than the others. Additionally, she was also married and later on divorced. Denise
finds herself at odds with Jaleesa and she seeks advice from the dorm director and eventually
opts to change roommates. She stays with Whitley who is also different from her. They have
different personalities which makes it hard for Denise to be comfortable. Whitley treats her
differently making her stay in the room uncomfortable. Whitley plays crickets sounds at night so
that she can sleep which are a distraction to Denise. Denise finally decides to move back in with
Jaleesa.
Presenting Problem
The problem presented is that Denise is unable to find a roommate that perfectly matches her
background and personality. Jaleesa is older and neater than her. Jaleesa also has a past
relationship that is different from Denise. She thinks that Denise is spoilt which makes them not
be in good terms initially. When she moves in with Whitley she is treated differently too and

denied the freedom to do different things such as eat cheese. She moves back in with Jaleesa.
Her uncertainty about the room she is comfortable with is a reflection of the conflict she faces
trying to co-exist with other people who are different.
Client Description
Denise is an enthusiastic person. However, she gets nervous and it becomes hard for her to
communicate. She has an awkward initial meet up with Jaleesa which causes tension between
them. She is not able to focus on first knowing Jaleesa but judges her from what Whitley had
initially told her about Jaleesa.
BACKGROUND AND CURRENT INFORMATION
Family Background
Denise’s mother was in the same dormitory that she is moving into back when she was in
campus. Her father was also in the same campus which makes her the daughter of Hillman
alumni Clair and Cliff. She also mentions that she has a sister. Her father was a gynecologist and
an obstetrician. She comes from a big family and says that she is used to living with different
people but also says that Jaleesa is totally different.
Education
She is a student in Hillman where she gets to study and stay at the dorm. She is a freshman who
has just joined the campus. She however is not serious with her education and ends up dropping
out of college.
Work History

She works at the school cafeteria while she is still studying. Through the part time job she is able
to get more money although she is also poor with managing her finances.
Religious/Spirituality Involvement
She is a Christian however she is not actively involved in her spiritual life.
Physical Capacity
Denise is very active and fit for her age. She is able to do different physical activities such as
walk, eat, dance and lifting object. She carries her luggage upstairs to her room. She however
does not exercise or be cautious about what she eats to maintain a healthy weight. She eats junk
food such as pizza.
Medical History
She has no serious medical conditions however she has had dental retainers. She is a healthy
young woman with no existing illnesses.
Mental Health History/Psychological functioning
She suffers from anxiety of meeting new people and adapting to new environments and people.
Her anxiety causes her to have her words mixed up and she can barely focus on what she wants
to say or communicate.
Community Civic Involvement
She works at the campus cafeteria where she gets to serve and interact with different people in
her campus.
Extracurricular Involvement

She goes for a dance with Whitley where she meets a new man who is interested in her.
Needs
One of her needs is to feel safe in her relationships most especially with her roommates. She is
uncomfortable with their differences and therefore needs to adjust to living with other people
without becoming anxious.

She is in a new environment with a new roommate that she is supposed to live with. She has no
clear idea of who her roommate really is and this puts her in a conflicted position. She is scared
that she might be a bad person.
