TELEVISION COMMERCIALS
This assignment is due on Monday, April 18 by midnight and should be submitted to the
Assessments page on Blackboard.
It is worth 100 points-3 points will be deducted for each spelling or grammar error, 5
points will be deducted for each format error.
Write two 30-second commercials and one 10-second commercial using the split page
format (directions how to create this will be posted). Each commercial must be on a
separate piece of paper-divide each page with a line down the middle and list “VIDEO”
directions on the left side (CAP ALL VIDEO DIRECTIONS) and write “AUDIO” copy
on the right side. Audio must match video by putting audio on the same line as the
corresponding video. You have the option of either using copy notes listed below, using
an existing product or creating your own product (as long as it’s realistic)-do not write a
commercial that is an already existing TV spot. Do not use profanity in your copy.
Do not write a PSA for this assignment. Put in a logo shot at the end of each spot.
At the top right of each page, put your name, class and section number-at the top center
of each commercial, list your client, the title of the spot and the length of the spot.
You have the option of using the same client for all three spots or using a separate client
for each commercial (or the same client for two spots and a different client for the third.)
It is essential that each spot fit within the time constraints.
DeKalb Beer – a fine alternative to high-priced beers, DeKalb Beer gives you all the taste
of European brews at a much lower price. Brewed locally, it mixes hybrid corn along
with hops for a rich flavorful beer that Northern Illinois can call its very own. Besides
the traditional 6 pack, it’s also available in a 16 pack that’s cheaper than most 12 packs
and also in a mini-keg that fits right into your refrigerator. There’s also DeKalb Lite and
Cold-Filtered DeKalb Ice. Slogan: For a great beer, move to DeKalb!
(NOTE: DO NOT SHOW ANYONE DRINKING BEER IN A TV SPOT.)
The Shocker – the Shocker is an electric automobile that runs entirely on battery power
and is an affordable energy-conscious vehicle. It’s a three wheeled car that seats four and
can travel up to 500 miles on one charge (and only takes two hours to completely charge
the battery!) It can attain a speed of 70 miles an hour and comes equipped with anti-lock
brakes and a variety of options. Slogan: Drive into the future with the Shocker!
UMMM Perfume and Cologne-a scent for both men and women that will leave the
opposite sex speechless! UMMM is the first fragrance to have a pheromone base that
drives people so crazy with desire that they lose the ability to speak; one application in
the morning will last well into the evening. Use too much and you won’t get a moment
of peace. Make up your own slogan.
